MVX STUDIOS Update

Humble Beginnings
I established MVX STUDIOS in 2020. Partly out of necessity – a small business I had a user design contract with informed me that it’s much easier to pay me as one business to another and partly out of efficiency – I had my hand artistically in so many pots that it made sense to put all of these endeavours under one umbrella for ease of branding and marketing. I put out a call on social media for what I should call this new endeavour and MVX STUDIOS was born.

In the four years since I’ve been operating the studio, I haven’t taken much time to reflect on the direction of the STUDIO or what we’ve achieved so far. I won’t be reflecting on that here (not in this post anyways), but I’ll take this opportunity to discuss what’s to come.

What’s to Come
In the future, I’ll be contributing regularly to the STUDIO blog – my reflections on art, society, race and culture with the occasional guest post from fellow artists and other influential and treasured members of the community. Next, I’ll be posting a monthly update from the STUDIO – upcoming events, project updates, calls for submissions and collaborations, achievements, hopes, etc. Finally, I’ll be launching our online store in 2025, where you can purchase merch and other goods from the STUDIO.

Five Year Plan
They say if you dream it, you can achieve it so I’d like to share with you all my vision for MVX STUDIOS over the next five years. By 2030, my vision is to establish MVX STUDIOS as a physical studio, complete with exhibition and gallery space, workshop and performance space, affordable studio rentals, a free people’s library and a popup cafe. MVX STUDIOS will offer a variety of opportunities for artists and community partners to collaborate on socially engaged and liberated artistic projects that center the voices and visions of equity-seeking, marginalized, vulnerable and racialized peoples.

MVX STUDIOS will be a leader in healing BIPOC mental wellness through the arts, elevating the voices of Black communities and illuminating the unique vision and beauty of all marginalized communities in Calgary. In addition to this, MVX STUDIOS will collaborate in the community to bring the creative visions of marginalized people to life.
